Statistics now show that 10-13% of all young people between the ages of 11 and 16 years old are affected by self-harm. The scale of the problem has dramatically grown over the last decade and disclosure rates in schools and youth projects are a frequent occurrence.
Many professionals feel overwhelmed by the issue and are often unsure about how to effectively react in the case of a disclosure, feeling they know little about the subject and often fearing they will make the issue worse by responding in the wrong way.
